This paper will look at the alternatives that the UAW, GM, and their administration have, and cause suggestions with respect to dealing with the time-based compensation issues at GM. The UAW's time-based compensation is separated into three fundamental classifications and a few sub-classifications. As of December 2008, the complete remuneration was contained the time-based compensation of $30 every hour, premium installments of $10 every hour, and current and future advantages of $33 (Sherk). Premium installments incorporate additional time pay, move premiums, and get-away and occasion pay. Advantages incorporate wellbeing and extra security, inability, joblessness advantages, and benefits installments. The wellbeing and retirement benefits paid to retirees is viewed as a current pay cost, and as per Sherk, Since there are more resigned than dynamic workers this causes it to give the idea that GM representatives procure unquestionably more than they really do. Diminishing the hourly pay to the $50 objective will necessitate that GM and the UAW take a gander at all these zones with an end goal to discover cost sparing chances. A focal key to sparing work costs is decreasing the size of the workforce. As of now GM has set up a 'buyout' program that repays the worker with up $45,000 money promptly (Bunkley 2). Consequently, the representative cuts off all binds with GM, and the expense of current and future advantages is decreased to zero. While the ongoing round of buyouts brought about 7500 laborers leaving GM, 14000 stay at GM who are qualified for the program. Be that as it may, GM ended the program toward the beginning of April 2009 and has made no arrangements to reestablish or proceed with it. The cash spared through the buyout program is basic since it spares in the present moment just as the drawn out future advantages, for example, medical coverage and retirement annuities. 66% of the qualified laborers declined the course of action, yet GM could build the motivation with an end goal to expand that number. Further intentional decreases in the workforce will permit GM to rebuild its product offerings in a situation of higher profitability with less representatives. The way that the workforce decreases are deliberate keeps up great worker relations just as Union/Management participation. A GM that is diminished in size will permit them to concentrate on the product offerings that have the most potential for deals development. GM has made some professional dynamic moves toward this path by declaring the end of 13 plants, eliminating the Pontiac brand, and eliminating 21,000 hourly positions (GM to Phase Out Pontiac Brand). Portage, who has decreased hourly pay to about $55 every hour has sought after a comparative methodology and said that the figure would keep on declining as more laborers took buyouts and as the new-vehicle advertise recouped, permitting expanded creation (Bunkley 2). An augmentation of the buyout program by GM, an additional motivating force for exploiting it, and the expanded profitability would put GM comparable to Ford at $55 every hour. Further decrease in the time-based compensation could be practiced by more intently restricting the Ellis Besthttp://www.blogger.com/profile/02531806416892216155noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1092259032349097753.post-37446850040356270532020-08-25T18:02:00.001-07:002020-08-25T18:02:03.303-07:00Evaluate the effectiveness of Internet marketing EssayGiven that the UK has completely grasped web based business and Internet customers presently contribute more to the nationââ¬â¢s GDP than other nation in the G20, it is maybe obvious that it produced one of the worldââ¬â¢s driving on the web retailers â⬠ASOS (As Seen On Screen). Organizations in this industry give booked household and worldwide traveler transportation, mail and cargo transportation. Significant US organizations incorporate American Airlines, Delta, Southwest, and United Continental, just as the air tasks of expedited service organizations, for example, FedEx and UPS. The business key endurance factors are effective tasks, unwavering quality of administrations, and wellbeing. The drivers of progress are web economy, globalization, and minimal effort rivalry. In view of the key endurance elements and drivers of progress, huge organizations appreciate economies of scale in buying and the capacity to offer increasingly broad types of assistance. Little aircrafts can contend by serving nearby or provincial courses. All the data was gathered from online diaries, news, and research and report papers. The sources incorporate industry reports, for example, Hoover, Bloomberg, and F orbes. The information was sorted out by envelopes and afterward summed up into Words before placing in the paper. Each source was written in a different Word document each time it was utilized. The investigation utilizes the Porterââ¬â¢s 5 powers and PEST examination. Key Survival Factors In aircraft industry, request relies exceptionally upon the strength of the economy, which influences spending on business and relaxation air travel. Since numerous expenses are fixed, effective activities go about as a center factor to decide the gainfulness of carriers organizations. The essential tasks of aircrafts incorporate procuring and keeping up planes and air terminal offices, gaining travelers as well as cargo, overseeing staff, and working flights. The flight hardware (planes) that a carrier utilizes is critical to effective activities. The following key endurance factor for aircraft industry is security. Air traffic is developing quickly, air terminals are increasingly blocked, andâ ââ¬Å"with 2,000,000 travelers in the United States loading up in excess of 30,000 flights each day, keeping up that wellbeing record will be a challenge.â⬠Therefore, all aircraft organizations ought to have a systems enveloping the hypothesis, examination, arrangement of flight disap pointments, and the counteraction of such disappointments through guideline, instruction, and preparing. The organization could have lost the open picture in the event that they donââ¬â¢t have a technique ahead of time to reaction rapidly enough if there should arise an occurrence of crisis. To wrap things up, unwavering quality of administration is another key endurance factor for carrier industry. A positive open picture could be created among clients because of a notoriety for dependable administrations, which can prompt more recurrent business. Unwavering quality in the carriers business incorporates: reports of misused things, the on-time appearance of flights, automatic loading up disavowals from overbooking flights, and traveler grievances. Those aircrafts that can control these components could offer better support to the client, and in this way offer progressively solid assistance. Drivers of Change The web and web based business has totally adjusted the carriers circulation (the booking and ticketing of travelers for air travel). These days, explorers can book e-tickets on their trips through the airlinesââ¬â¢ sites or an outsider site. This has permitted carriers to take out administrative work, decrease operational costs, and sidestep trip specialist commissions. Besides, the potential in the worldwide travel showcase makes aircrafts organizations center more around globalization. To encourage worldwide development, U.S. aircrafts are campaigning for ââ¬Å"open skiesâ⬠settlements between the U.S. furthermore, different countries. These arrangements are reciprocal understandings that basically deregulate travel between the included nations, along these lines opening up specific markets to rivalry. ââ¬Å"The U.S. right now has marked in excess of 60 open skies bargains with countries around the globe.â⬠Finally, the ascent of the minimal effort bearers has constrained an adjustment in the serious condition of the air travel industry. Southwest, and JetBlue execute ease techniques that permit them to offer generally low airfares. These low passages change the whole business and power opponents to bring down their expenses and abatement their charges so as to remain serious. By and large Assessment The aircraft business is right now not appealing. Both business andâ tourist travel are decreased when the economy eases back. ââ¬Å"Global flying traffic normally rises and falls at double the pace of financial yield, so an adjustment in the economy can twofold the effect for airlines.â⬠Because of generally high fixed expenses of planes, air terminal offices, and work, carriers canââ¬â¢t effectively conform to diminished traveler traffic. In light of the money related outcomes on Hooverââ¬â¢s database, the industry has a low development pace of individual utilization consumptions starting at 2014, and it was estimated to develop at a yearly intensified pace of 4 percent somewhere in the range of 2014 and 2018. Notwithstanding diminishing rates, among African American young people, the pregnancy rate is especially high. In 1996, the pregnancy rate was 178.9 per thousand among African-American females matured 15 to 19 years, contrasted and a pregnancy pace of 82.6 among whites (Alan Guttmacher Institute, 1999). Also, based on the discoveries of the 1995 National Survey of Family Growth, it was resolved that African American females (48%) matured 15 to 17 were almost certain than their white (34%) partners to have had sex since menarche. Based on data give by the National Center to Health Statistics (1997), African-American females matured 15 to 19 were almost certain than their white friends to have had their first sexual experience (i.e., intercourse) without utilizing successful contraception (24% versus 14%, separately). Thus, based on such unsafe conduct, African American adolescents are at more serious hazard than their white companions for encountering a pregnancy. pregnant, particularly on the off chance that it was with the infant's dad. A finished up by Harris, a large portion of the moms accepted that sex was a conduct they were going to keep on taking part in, paying little heed to risk of malady or pregnancy. When contrasted with the immature dads partaking in the examination, Harris detailed that a large portion of the dads demonstrated that they were currently captivating in ensured sex.      Environmental Influences      As many have proposed, while commitment in unprotected sex at an early age places teenagers in danger for pregnancy, there are various different variables that impact African American adolescent pregnancy rates. As indicated by Dervarics (2004), African American high schooler moms and fathers are regularly spoken to among the rising number of minority "disconnected" youth in the US. This gathering is included adolescents ages 16 to 19 who are both out of school and unemployed. Dervarics detailed that almost A fourth of African Americans ages 18 to 19 falls into the detached classification. It is these issues that consideration must be guided towards so as to diminish high schooler pregnancy rates. References Alan Guttmacher Institute. (1994). Sex and America's young people. The presence of light turns the characters belligerent, while darkness pacifies them. Light imagery indicates aggressiveness, impatience, and danger. For example, when Friar Lawrence speaks on Romeo and Julietââ¬â¢s love, he advises, ââ¬Å"These violent delights have violent ends / And in their triumph die, like fire and powder, / Which, as they kiss, consumeâ⬠(2.6.9-10). Fire, a form of light imagery, personifies the amorous passion that Romeo and Juliet mutually share. Just as fire and gunpowder combust when mixed, the irrational feelings of the lovers reach new plateaus whenever they kiss. Friar Lawrence believes that this type of love is particularly dangerous, as it is neither stable nor particularly successful in the long run. In addition, impatiently waiting for the sun to set, Juliet proclaims, ââ¬Å"Gallop apace, you fiery footed steeds, / Towards Phoebus lodging! Such a wagoner / As Phaeton would whip you to the westâ⬠(3.2.1-3). Fiery-footed steeds, Phoebus, and Phaeton all refer to the common Greek myth in which every day, Phaeton, the god of the sun, would ride his chariot of flaming horses from one end of the sky to the other. The quote epitomizes Julietââ¬â¢s impatience for day to end, as she implores Phaeton to whip his horses faster so that the sun can set more quickly. Juliet despises the heat and loneliness she feels during the day, and recognizes that she only feels true happiness in the presence of night. Furthermore, after sleeping with Juliet, right before leaving in the morning, Romeo states ominously, ââ¬Å"More light and light ââ¬â more dark and dark our woes!â⬠(3.5.36). In daytime, Romeo and Juliet are incapable of uniting, leaving each of them feeling grim. Light imagery characterizes the danger that could result in their meeting. The word ââ¬Å"dark,â⬠used figuratively, foreshadows a sinister ending to Romeo and Julietââ¬â¢s love story. Various symbols of light represent intense emotion within the characters, and it is the corresponding actions to these impulses which allow the plot to twist so frequently throughout the play. Darkness provides the lovers with comfort, intimacy, and love. Further, aptly speaking about Romeoââ¬â¢s love after the Capulet party, Benvolio asserts, ââ¬Å"To be consorted with the humorous night. / Blind is his love and best befits the dark.â⬠(2.1.33-34). Romeoââ¬â¢s heedless love to Rosaline best fits the night because it is only in the all-covering envelope of darkness that he can express his true love without fear of repercussion. The dark, symbolizing comfort, allows Romeo to find solace within him and emancipate the anxiety and stress he has carried throughout his love affair with Rosaline. Moreover, as Juliet anticipates Romeoââ¬â¢s arrival at night, she imagines, ââ¬Å"Spread thy close curtain, love performing night, / That runaway eyes may wink, and Romeo / Leap to these arms untalkââ¬â¢d of and unseenâ⬠(3.2.5-7). Romeo and Juliet, both runaways in their own right, can only show their true nature and make love after dark. Closing the curtain from the outside world brings anonymity, and removes them from the melancholy of the day. This allows Romeo and Juliet to perform consummation on their wedding night to signify the start of what they ironically believe will become a long, prosperous marriage. Furthermore, in the same soliloquy, Juliet adds, ââ¬Å"Come civil night, / Thou sober-suited matron, all in black, / And learn me how to lose a winning matchâ⬠(3.2.11-13). Ironically, Juliet requests the night, depicted as a widow dressed in black, to teach her how to lose her virginity. Dark imagery is evident in her description of the maiden of night but also in the tone of her voice; Juliet speaks to it as if it is her friend. Darkness, often misunderstood as an omen of death, is actually a boon for Romeo and Juliet, as it is only in the moonââ¬â¢s presence that an ordinary teenage crush spawns into a burning passion. In Romeo and Juliet by William Shakespeare, the trauma and anguish experienced by these teenagers cause them to make brash, suicidal decisions. Though God separated good from bad when distinguishing light from darkness, those same divisions are not present in this story. The positive and negative relationships between siblings produced a challenging environment for social learning. The relationships between my mother and father provided a stern perception of leadership and organization within the family unit (Winnicott, 2003). The perceived leadership and organization model my parents incorporated showcased my mother very unsocialable and connecting to her children. This in part relationship created an uneasy atmosphere that limited the social connectivity with outside members of the family. An ongoing challenge for development was to take what was not given as child into adulthood. The relationship with my mother was focusing on the bread and butter of survival. Those areas of focus were keeping food on the table and a place to call home ââ¬â that did not include a social connection with her children. In doing so, the skills needed to learn how to connect and interpret behavioral trends were not development as a child. The language opportunity that normally begins during childhood didnââ¬â¢t offer much of advancement. Mainly, the reason for the limited language skills was due to my mother being raised in a small town that had limited resources or highly educated people. Therefore, the need to expand on learning strong language was not encourage or sought after to better the existence of her children. The relationship with my father was limited as well as to develop critical social identity development that he was hardly around. The limited interaction provided a sense of loss to self identity and the self concept due to no real foundation developed with my father. The relationship was not a consisted bridge between my mother and father because there was no parallel universe of social building towards their children. Instead, my father felt that my mother should lead and make the decisions of connecting with the children to present a hard approach at all times. My father would take the occasionally approach to put his foot down but were more interested in other matters that centered on his existence. The family unit experience was a major deficient in the social identity development needed for the growth of an individual. The interactions between family members instill the psycho-social-culture environment that translates adulthood. The limited social building relationships as a child provided my teenage years quite difficult due to trying to understanding the definition of the human being. The combination of the relationships between my families provided an incorrect prism of the actual world that was corrected as an older age approached. The fundamental basis of social rendering is the understanding of how our family structure is one out of many ingredients to defining who we really are as individuals. In addition, the family unit is important only on the basis for providing an identity to how adults and children interact that are genetic related. This biological relationship poses an in-depth psycho-social-culture awareness to making sure the trends, styles; perceptions are embedded in oneââ¬â¢s mind. Moreover, the benefit of the family unit impression on a child is an opportunity to redefine oneââ¬â¢s individual perception on other people as well as experiences (Winnicott, 2003). The developmental psychology stage is crucial to allowing the child to grow as an adult with the basis of the family unit influence, however, the experiences later on in life provides a chance to create a new reality. The stages of individualââ¬â¢s development that opens up a perception windfall to present a newer understanding to interpersonal skills ââ¬â that encourages the needed growth for long-term achievement. The benefit of understanding the roles that our family units play in the beginning actually empowers us to being able to restructure later years of maturity. In reaching the plateau of achievement for social growth is the number of experiences that human beings encounter that has additional impact as the family unit. The overall focus of what our mother and father did not do is not as important as compared to allowing newer experiences to redirect our mindset. The core vision to be focused on is the ability to learn the lessons that our family unit as a child presented and provide a deeper psychology terminology that doesnââ¬â¢t limits the journey (Winnicott, 2003). The most influential groups that assisted in the growth of social developmental growth is the church, community organizations, school parenting groups of development, and toastmasters. The organizations provided an opportunity to grow as child, teenager, and later on as an adult that empowered my mindset. The benefits of associating with the organizations provided a sense of what is most important to human growth ââ¬â that learning something new that is different than something is a good thing. The overall perception also allowed a chance to redefine what was shown and taught as a child to create a different observation. The experiences as an adult introduced new and exciting individuals that opened up a wonderful projection to what was true and not a false pretense. Furthermore, the connection of meeting new people and experiencing new episodes of life provided a wealth of new understanding. The final analysis is that the key is having the willingness to learning a new perspective of social interaction that nurtures oneââ¬â¢s human growth. An example of the different interpretations possible in Shakespeareââ¬â¢s plays can be seen in how people interpret Macbeth, a famous play by Shakespeare. The monarchist reading of the play shows King Duncan, the ruler of Scotland at the time as being saintly, where all of his actions were correct and any action taken against him was considered evil [2]. Macbeth was considered a sinner destined to die from the moment he committed the grave sin of killing King Duncan in order to gain kingship. In contrast, the institutional reading puts the blame on to the system of monarchy itself, stating that it promotes the killing of higher positions in order to gain the position for the individual committing the act. The institutional reading shows the actions of Macbeth to be expected of a person teased to an extent where temptation overtakes them. The broad interpretations are one of the reasons Shakespeare is still respected in the current time. The main focuses of Shakespeareââ¬â¢s plays are usually universally understandable emotions that people feel [1]. These emotions include love, hate, jealousy, passion and fear. Love and hate are two emotions that exist commonly in the world. Both usually contain large amounts of interest in a person and can end up with quite extreme results in some circumstances. In Shakespeareââ¬â¢s plays, these emotions usually cause the death of characters. Jealousy is similar to hate but different in terms of motive. In contrast to this, Shakespeareââ¬â¢s plays usually have jealousy and hate hand in hand and together, cause murder and other misfortune to characters. Fear causes characters in Shakespeareââ¬â¢s plays to act without much prior thought or motive and can cause damage to the character along with characters that surround said character. As these emotions can be easily related to the majority of the audience, it catches and keeps the interest. An example of the universal emotions in Shakespeareââ¬â¢s play can be seen in the play, Macbeth. In Macbeth, the majority of the primary characters face one or more of these emotions to an extent where they commit murder or some other act of treason. An example of this is the killing of Banquo. This is an example of the emotion of fear, as his death was not one that necessarily had to happen, making it a quick judgement without much prior thinking. Macbeth ordered assassins to kill Banquo and his son in order to keep the witchesââ¬â¢ prophecy to himself so no one suspects him of murdering King Duncan. Whether this would have affected his secret is unknown, but the deed causes Macbeth to be very guilt-ridden and eventually causes his defeat at the end of the play. Characters in Shakespeareââ¬â¢s plays usually have very complex personalities implied through the strange variety of their actions [1]. Characters in Shakespeare can be easily influenced by events around them. These events are normally quite traumatic to the character and cause the character to think in ways that contrast their old way of thinking. This results in actions initially unpredictable via the old characters personality. An example of this in Shakespeareââ¬â¢s play is shown in the play, Macbeth. In Macbeth, the protagonist Macbeth is told his future by the witches where they state that he will quickly progress through social ranks. After hearing the prophecy, Macbethââ¬â¢s mindset changes and he eventually kills King Duncan in order to achieve kingship. This violent change in personality would not have been expected initially as he was introduced as a loyal servant of the King. Some readings of the play suggest that the idea of murdering the King was always in his heart and the sudden position change to Thane of Crawdor along with the witchesââ¬â¢ prophecy simply brought up what was already in his heart. Another example of a complex character in Macbeth is Lady Macbeth. Lady Macbeth is initially shown as a woman with a man-like personality through her monologue where she states that she would rip a baby from her breast and dash its brains out if she needed to. In the play, she convinces Macbeth to perform the deed of killing King Duncan and after the deed is done, says how she would have done the deed herself if only the king did not look similar to her father. Later throughout the play, she keeps acting stranger as the guilt of the deed finally faces her. By the end of the play, she had committed suicide, unable to handle the deed she had assisted in performing. The complex characters in Shakespeareââ¬â¢s plays are one of the reasons that Shakespeare is still famous in the twenty-first century. In this time and day, Shakespeare is still a famous playwright whose plays are known to many. The reasons why include the diversity of interpretations of the various characters and meanings throughout the plays, the universally understandable emotions that the majority of the audience can relate to and the complexity of the many characters in the plays of Shakespeare. To this day, and in the future as well, his works will still be respected as the magnificent efforts they are. Bibliography Anon. , 2010. Shakespeares Enduring Nature. Answer: This is an explanatory study with both quantitative approach and qualitative approaches. The investigators sought to establish how treatment with Garcinia cambogia affected weight gain or reduction in obese women. The researchers provided adequate introductory statements to build background for their study. They provided a widely accepted definition of obesity as an excess accretion of body fat following a disparity of caloric intake and use coupled with reduced physical activity. They also provided a linkage of obesity to metabolic conditions including dyslipidemia and type two diabetes. This is commendable because it shows adequate justification of the study. The studys attempt to link obesity and its comorbidities including insulin and adipokines are significant because endogenous processes of homeostasis are integral to energy use in the body and the consequent build of fat, or lack thereof. Vasques et al. (2014) aimed to study the clinical efficacy of the medication with the extract of G. cambogia with respect to enhancement of anthropometric and metabolic factors women with obesity, in addition to analyzing its effect on leptin amounts. The aim supports the fact that very few past scientists have conducted evaluations on the proficiency of ability of G. cambogia to augment lipid profile or its consequent effect on leptin quantities in humans. Similarly, most past studies concentrated on evaluating Garcinia cambogia affect weight reduction in animals unlike the current study which targets humans as study subjects. Anchored in the aim, the study hypothesized that there is a relationship between amounts of leptin and metabolic adjustments in human and animals. It was also hypothesized that hypolipemic effect as a result of the treatment with garcinia extract has a strong relationship with leptin secretion induced changes. Summary of methods used in the study The study recruited 60 obese women in the Novo Hamburgo City. The completion rate of the trials was acceptable because 43 women did, representing 71.7 % of the total study participants. All study participants met the study criteria which included stability of eating habits, not followers of low-energy diet and stability of body weight in a period of three months. Additional inclusion criteria included stability of physical activity, no use of drugs known to cause weight gain, good appetite, similar glucose and lipid profile and generally good health. Women with a history of smoking and alcohol and drug abuse were excluded from the study as those with cancer, diabetes type II, history of endocrine abnormalities and bulimia. Creatinine of 75115 mL/min, phosphates of 300 U/I and TSH levels ranging between 0.3 and 5.0 UI/mL were also taken into account. With the admission and exclusion criteria, the investigators made sure that all study participants were near uniform to avoid outlier re sults. The investigators used a double blind randomized study design in evaluating the pharmacotherapeutic efficiency of two months of treatment with day-to-day dosages of G. cambogia uniform extract (2.4 g/d). Use of randomized study was important because it prevented the study outcomes from ' inspired by the placebo effect. It made sure that the treatment group comprising of half the study population was unaware of what the remaining half was having. Random sampling applied to isolate the experimental group from the control group was instrumental in obtaining a representative half in either group. The daily caloric intake of the women was assessed (1903 453 kcal/d) after which an individualized meal plan is providing 1523 185 kcal/d was given to each. Upon finishing the month treatment plan, various parameters including anthropometry, lipid profile, serum insulin, leptin and resting energy expenditure were assessed. Patients dietary intake was also assessed before and after treatment usin g food diaries. Body composition was estimated using a bioelectrical impedance analysis for fat mass and free fat mass. Resting energy expenditure was determined using indirect calorimetry. Collection of blood samples was carried out to analyze for FBS, HDL, LDL, and triglyceride. Capsules containing 51.02% concentrations of HCA similar in color and shape to the placebo (containing starch and magnesium stearate) were given out to the study participants. The experimental group was instructed to take the HCA capsule three times just like the control group was taking the placebo the same way. The capsules remaining after the two months of treatment were counted to check for compliance. In many ways, the investigators followed the due procedures necessary during experimental study designs: they randomly selected the study participants and used placebos as recommended, thereby raising the reliability and credibility of the study results. Findings of the Study The results indicated treatment with a standardized extract of Garcinia cambogia does not affect anthropometric or calorimetric or leptin or insulin serum levels. Additionally, the treatment does little in affecting blood cholesterol levels thereby disagreeing with the hypothesis. The study disagrees with Mattes and Bormann (2000) who whose results indicated that treatment with G. cambogia extracts significantly reduces body weight. The results of the study are in agreement with Heymsfield et al. (1998) in which it was found out that garcinia extract treatment did not reduce the weight of the experimental group compared to the control group. In another study in which animals were used, G. cambogia extract posed endocrine effects on the study subjects. Hayamizu et al. (2003) documented reduced leptin and serum insulin following four weeks of treatment. This may explain the findings of the current study in which no substantial levels of leptin were to recording following the prolonged period of treatment. Additionally, the hypotriglyceridemic effect of the tested dosages got characterized by a 28% of TG levels in which case the effect appears to have been boosted HCA on the breakdown of fatty acids but not via leptin levels fluctuation because they remained constant throughout. The G. cambogia is majorly composed of HCA which positively inhibits ATP-citrate lyase and as such highly likely to diminish biosynthesis of fatty acids. While the treatment was given before meal times, it has a similar absorptive and distributive capacity to that of meals. As such, pharmacological inhibition of lipogenesis is mostly likely to be partly associated with hypotriglyceridemic effect recorded. As a matter of fact, the diminished lipogenesis can be correlated with calorimetric anomalies due to variations respiratory quotient suggesting a deviation of the lipid oxidation level. In another study conducted by Vasques et al. (2008), the investigators assessed the effect of the respiratory treatment quotient and resting metabolic rate in humans, the fluctuations in the calorimetric variables were noticeably absent. Similarly, a study involving animals conducted by Ishihara et al. (2000) noted a decline in the respiratory quotient when the animals subjected to G. cambogia. In general, the study results failed to agree with the hypothesis because no notable changes were seen liver transaminase levels as well as levels of creatinine clearance. In addition, there were treatment side effects including durst, GIT discomfort, rapid evacuation, constipation, nausea, and dizziness, among others. Well, considering there were no significant changes in the anthropometry of the control group relative to the experimental group, it is arguable that G. cambogia treatment for obese people is certainly not worthy trying. Internal and External Validity Internal and external validity are important to any study. The current study faces internal validity threats courtesy of certain changes in the independent variable that can be attributed to the observed variation in the dependent variables. For instance, the G. cambogia is primarily constituted of HCA which positively inhibits ATP-citrate lyase and therefore mostly likely to moderate biosynthesis of fatty acids. Whilst the treatment was given ahead of food intake, G. cambogia has a similar absorptive and distributive capability as that of meals. Consequently, pharmacological inhibition of lipogenesis is ordinarily likely to be relatively associated with the hypotriglyceridemic effect seen. Additionally, the reduced lipogenesis can also be associated with calorimetric irregularities due to changes in the respiratory quotient signifying a deviation of the lipid oxidation level. In addition weight gain or reduction, as independent variables, are also attributable other causes besides G. cambogia. For example the family history of the study participants seems to have been ignored by the study. Family history obesity ought to have pointed individuals whose in the study predisposed to obesity. With regards to external validity, the authors confidence in stating whether the studys results apply to other groups remains uncompromised. This can be attested by the fact that they were very explicit in stating that they have no conflict interest in the study findings. As such, it is possible that the current study findings can be generalized to the population outside Novo Hamburgo City. However, there is no mention whether the study tools were pre-tested. As such, there are fears that the results may not generalize to untested populations. Conclusion There are a few modifications that can be made to neutralize threats facing internal and external validities. Including the family history of obesity in the list of exclusion criteria could help screen out for participants likely not be genetically predisposed to obesity. Pre-testing of study tools could help negate threats to external validity. References Mattes, R. D., Bormann, L. (2000). Taking a developmental perspective, we discuss whether and how the desire to belong (approach motivation) and the fear of being rejected (avoidance motivation) might be of central importance for understanding success or failure in transitional phases, especially in the transition from adolescence into adulthood. Cognitive, emotional, and behavioral consequences of social motives (approach, avoidance, and their co-occurrence) are reviewed. We argue that both tendencies need to be taken into account for understanding affiliation motivation and behavior and its significance for life satisfaction and well-being. A predominant social approach motivation has positive consequences for cognition, behavior, emotion, and well-being, whereas the opposite pattern holds for a predominant avoidance motivation. Taking a developmental perspective, however, and considering social development in the transition to adulthood, co-occurrence might be more beneficial than a predominant avoidance motivation. The reason I chose this article was because it stated a lot about social development and how important it is in every humans life. Social development is a better term that describes actions that are taken to build positive outcomes and prevent negative social outcomes that can adversely affect a community. This article explains how taking the desire to belong and the fear of being rejected might be very important when understanding the need to succeed or fail in transitional phases, the most important transition being from adolescence to adulthood. Adolescence would be best defined as the life stage between childhood and adulthood. Socially an adolescent has spends years communicating with parents, peers, and teachers. Eventually the social development grows and takes a different turn as they get into relationships and become intimate. I also chose this article because it explains the consequences of social motives which are cognitive, emotional, and behavioral. It explains the importance and how those three motives are significant for life satisfaction and well being. If I had to write a research paper on this topic I would not use this specific article in my paper. Reason being is because I dont feel as though it consisted of enough information. When it comes to the issues with social development in adulthood this article gave some information, but not enough to where it actually lets the reader truly understand how the issues can affect human development.I would want the reader to be able to know what majority of the issues are instead of just talking about social development and how important it may be in someones live. There are many issues that have a Loy to do with social development. If someone isnt aware of those issues then it can definitely affect them in a way that will not benefit them in the future. We as humans have to know the good and bad benefits of social development and I dont think this article explained it enough for anyone to realize that the good and bad benefits are. This is derived from the different insights collected from a number of disciplines that include anthropology, sociology and social psychology. From one of the aspects of IR researchers have questioned the happenings during the last two decades. It has resulted in the argument by various scholars that the processes of privatization, internationalization and trans-nationalization have in a great way resulted in the transformation of how international politics are currently conducted. However, there is great level of competition that is faced by the privileged actors and the foreign offices. These are increasingly faced not only from the available ministries but also the agencies in the governments as well as the non state actors and the international organizations. In this paper, the trends that have resulted to the role and behavior of these actors as well as their processes on the foreign policy analysts and practitioners will be discussed. In addition, it will also analyze the role of the researchers in these activities. Therefore, in this case, a question is presented on the extent to which foreign policy analysis, the sub field of International relations that are actor centric has taken the various related accounts of non states actors who have currently become of growing importance to this subject. The Foreign Policy analysts have made a disapproval of viewing the state as a unitary actor. Because of this the scholars within the field of foreign policy analysis should make appropriate analysis in decision making to involve the non state actors within the first elements of international relations. However, most of the studies have revealed that foreign policy analysis is still focused on the state actors while it tends to Ellis Besthttp://www.blogger.com/profile/02531806416892216155noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1092259032349097753.post-82725928380716912042020-02-03T17:24:00.001-08:002020-02-03T17:24:02.675-08:00Seminar Option 2 Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 250 wordsSeminar Option 2 - Essay Example include the Fitness-Instructor Certification, Personal Fitness Certification and Fitness-Trainer Certification (Schenck & American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons, 2009). Some are vague and finite, while others go into extreme detail. Some of the leading psychologists relative to these theories are Jean Piaget (Beilin, 1992) with his cognitive developmental theory, Erik Erikson (Gross, 1987), who developed his psychosocial developmental theory, and Lawrence Kohlberg (Guthrie, 1984), with his moral development theory. It has taken many years for these scholars, as well as intelligent students to polish and critique these developmental theories. Kohlbergs moral developmental theory best accounts for my moral, ethical, and personal development as well as potentially playing a large role in my future development as a senior adult. I respect them all because they all are true in their own way. I just happen to have one theory which applies to me more than the others. As a child, I can remember being cognizant about the direct repercussions of my actions on myself as well as other children. Out of all the conspicuous developmental theories that are commonplace today, I believe that, as Kohlberg stated, it is like saying, The last time I did that I got spanked so I will not do it again (Kohlberg, 1974). Thats exactly the mentality I developed after wrongdoing. In other words, a behavior which is thought to be ethically incorrect usually results in the culprit being punished, driving childrens moral choices. The reflection in terms of how and why Kohlbergs portions of stage one of his theory relates to my childhood is because even though I was quite obsequious, I was surrounded by people who held what they thought were universal moral/ethical developments; these people had general principles to follow that would be deemed appropriate by the majority of citizens, as well as being able to have the moral fortitude to give instead of taking. I admit that I was quite selfish at this early age. Kohlberg devised that his theory was composed primarily of three major levels of development. These primary levels are known as pre-conventional, conventional, and post-conventional. In all, there are six sub-stages that are underneath his primary levels in regards to his moral developmental theory. I can attest that I judged moral acts based on their repercussions. When I was young, I would not steal food from drug stores because I knew if I got caught, they were not going to treat me well in jail. The main point with respect to Kohlberg and my childhood is that I did not grasp what it was to have broadly acquiesced moral values. This is what Kohlberg argued in his first stage of the preconventional level of development. Furthermore in stage two of the preconventional level, which is defined by the self-driven person, proclaims whats in it for me, where correct behavior is based on whatever is in the individuals best interest (Kohlberg, 1974). A young child in the preconventional moral stage has not yet acquired or internally digested the conventions of society with respect to what is right or wrong. Instead, they concentrate on their convergence on the transcendent repercussions that specific states of affairs may bring to them (Kohlberg, 1971). This stage of development concurs with my lifestyle as a youngster. I was selfish and I thought I was completely free from any wrongdoing because I was a child. I failed to develop any rational moral belief system at this point in my life. The conventional level of moral reasoning is typical of some adolescents and a great deal of adults. In the general consensus, people who justify their actions in a conventional way arbitrate the morality of behaviors by discerning them against societys general views and ethically-guided behaviors. Persons in this stage of development either approve or decline from other individuals as it pertains to societys accordance with the conceived role. As Kohlberg put it, they try to be a good boy or a good girl so that they can meet the expectations of society having apprehended the knowledge that there is intricate value in so doing (Kohlberg, 1973). During this broad conventional stage of Kohlbergs theory, one must note that conventional morality is dependent by an acceptance of societys assemblage related to what are right and or wrong. In the fourth stagein the same level as the thirdit is the drive for authority, social order, and obedience that defines its presuppositions. In the fourth stage, it is absolutely essential to adhere to laws, dictums, and social conveyances due to the fact that they are vital in creating a stable and functional society. I can 100% relate to Kohlbergs fourth stage when I was an adult. For example, I ended up picking up rank in the military and was in charge of hundreds of Marines that I was responsible for in every way. It was essential to obey what you were told to accomplish by your supervisor. If you did not finish by the time he or she returned, you can go to jail, lose your money, lose your rank, and even lose your house. The Marines take disobedience to its laws very seriously. Thus, Kohlbergs theory is at work here during this phase of my life because I was dedicated to adhering to the rules that governed me, because it was my duty to protect the U.S. foreign and domestically. With respect to stage five of Kohlbergs theory, my life as I got older and travelled more often became committed to the social contract driven force. That is, I held the worldview and made myself respect that every culture-also known as cultural relativism-has its different views on what is acceptable in society and what is not. I had to learn to respect that because I was used to my own rules and regulations. But when my units in the military deployed overseas, we were under the jurisdiction of foreign governments. Such perspectives should be mutually respected as unique to each person or community. For example, in the United States, prostitution is not something very good to proclaim as a job, and is illegal in every state except for one. This is in direct contrast to other countries, where sex is actually a business industry and is widely promoted. People do it so they can make money and live. It was hard to accept at first, but once my selfishness went away and my mind widened, my morals changed to universal ones, as I will discuss lastly in stage six in Kohlbergs post-conventional stage. After I served in the military, learned to obey and respect other cultures, along with my travelling experiences, I started to finally develop my own universal morals. This I believe started me in stage six of Kohlbergs theory. For example, I believe that murder, adultery in any case, preemptive violence and war, and saying the Lords name in vain are all immoral and should be shunned. This is a mirrored reflection of Kohlbergs, in particular stage six, of his moral development theory. It pos tulates that moral reasoning is based on abstract reasoning using universal ethical principles. Kohlberg and his peers developed the just community schools approach towards promoting moral development (Power, Higgins, Kohlberg, 1989). I thought that anyone in society would think it would be morally right because stealing does not always have negative connotations. This goes along with Kohlbergs conventional stage of development. I tended to weigh the morality of things based on society. For example, I used to believe war was the right thing to do as a preemptive measure. But when I became an adult, my beliefs changed drastically and were more coagulated. I started becoming more diplomatic and resolving issues by negotiations, not by combat or any other physical altercations. In Kohlbergs sixth stage, I believe that was the turning point to how I judge people and other things and situations. Now I will address how Kohlbergs moral theory applies to my current lifestyle as well as to contemporary world affairs. Reaching such a high stage was not noticeable to me for a long time, and it took a lot of hard work to reach it, but then I started giving large thoughts empathetic to lots of individuals. For example, I saw massive amounts of impoverished people in the Dominican Republic and Puerto Rico. There should be no poor individuals in the world; there should be a more rigid attempt to completely eradicate HIV. But the results still have not satisfied me. Efforts to tame the HIV epidemic have only been haphazard (Kaiser, 2010). The key methods are using condoms or teaching individuals how to maintain abstinence. Recently the U.S. cut the condom program before President Bush left office, which was a death sentence to millions of Africans who were participating in the program. The former First Lady Laura Bush made an underrated attempt, which promoted the use of condoms and ha nded them out in African regions, which people thought was evolutionary. However, she did not advocate for abstinence as much as she could have (Kaiser, 2010). Overall, I feel that such differential perspectives among cultures should be respected as unique to each person, group, tribe, culture, or community. I learned this after travelling overseas, interacting with differential people from diverse cultures, and seeing what really goes on in the world. I thought that every country loved America and that we were viewed as the benevolent country that came to the worlds aid when it needed us. I thought that most, if not all countries, wanted freedom, liberty, and justice as a lot of people incorrectly thinks. When I was in Russia, many citizens were angered by our presence as Americans and hated the idea of complete freedom and looked at us Americans like we were the bad people. One Russian, out-of-the-blue, came up to me and said, Iraqà ¢Ã¢â ¬Ã ¦BIG MISTAKE. I did not understand the anti-American sentiment. This is in no way a political statement nor does it reflect my beliefs, I just want the reader to be aware of how other cultures view the U.S. and its effect on moral systems. This point aforementioned regarding the Russians is directly consistent with what Kohlberg was saying regarding how society has different views. It is called cultural relativism. Speaking in terms of the future, I would like to work for the FBI and catch criminals, whether they are bank robbers, fraudulent vices, computer hackers, or any criminal of any kind. Because of my developed and polished moral and ethical views, thanks to Kohlberg, I also plan to increase my voluntary practices with community organizations like Habitat for Humanity, the Peace Corps and AmeriCorps. One of my academic goals is to graduate with honors and reach graduate studies. I am determined to succeed and at that I especially mean academically. I also want to get in better shape so Ill feel better. After delving into Kohlbergs moral development theory and also my experience through an adult, I believe that his theory best explains my moral/ethical development, adherence to laws and engage in obedience, and countless other tidbits. Kohlbergs moral developmental theory best accounts for my moral, ethical, and personal developments as well as potentially playing a large role in my future development as a senior adult. It also explains the rationale for punishment administered to me in the past, being of self-interest, and conjuring my own universal ethical principles. Although a lot of the developmental theories are well supported and studied, I believe that relative to my own life that none of them have the clout and or efficacy in its developmental explication that Kohlbergs theory has. Ultimately, I found Kohlbergs theory to be the best one that explains historical, contemporary, and very likely my future endeavors as well as I still mature as an adult. After rigorous delving into Kohlbergs material, I am confident that his moral theory is extremely accurate and could be used as a guide to help in developing individuals. His idea was that if people had light to work by they could and would work longer hours. In his mind, sleep was something that was not needed and stood opposed to progress (Coren, 1996). ââ¬Å"Anything which tends to slow work down is a waste. We are always hearing people talk about ââ¬Ëloss of sleepââ¬â¢ as a calamity. They better call it loss of time, vitality, and opportunity. â⬠-Thomas Edison Even great minds, like Edisonââ¬â¢s, can be wrong at times. Some researchers argue that had Edison spent more time sleeping it would not have taken him more than 1000 attempts to create his light bulb. Research has shown that lack of sleep can have adverse effects on an individualââ¬â¢s physical health, mental health, and productivity. The information presented in this paper will address the importance of sleep in human health, safety, and productivity. First, some physical issues attributed to sleep deprivation will be discussed. Next, mental problems linked to lack of sleep with be outlined with documented cases. Lastly, examples of errors and disasters that have been tied to sleep deprivation will be presented. There are many physical issues that are linked to sleep deprivation. Cardiovascular problems and greater risk of death have been tied to lack of sleep. The human body requires sleep to restore and repair itself. When the body does not get the rest it requires the consequences can be quite unfortunate. Poor sleep has been shown to increase the risk of high blood pressure, heart failure, stroke, and heart attack. The human liver produces a protein called ââ¬Å"C-reactive proteinâ⬠that is used by the body to aid in response to inflammation, injury, or infection and is removed by the body when the inflammation, injury, or infection is gone or heals. This protein binds to damaged cells, as well as some bacteria, to aid in removing them from the body. This allows the body to heal. One study showed that over a period of five days during which a subject was denied sleep, the C-reactive protein builds up in blood at a steady and significant rate. Sleeping allows the body time to process and remove these proteins. An increase of these proteins can at times lead to heart attack, stroke, or high blood pressure (Meier-Ewert , Ridker , Rifai, Regan, Price, Dinges & Mullington, 2004). The body is able to restore itself and heal when given between six and eight hours of sleep in a 24-hour period. While a person sleeps the immune system is working to restore and revive the body. When the human body is not granted enough sleep, the immune system is not able to fully complete the task of taking care of and healing the body. Lack of sleep can also cause the number of T-cells to decline in the human body. T-cells aid in immunity and assist other cells in their functions. Lower T-cell levels mean that the body is less able to fight off infection, subdue inflammation, or heal an injury (Mann, 2010). When the body is unable to heal itself, there is greater risk of death. Sleep deprivation can also lead to an increase of stress, which has been linked to heart disease, obesity, depression, gastrointestinal issues, as well as mental heath issues. Allowing the body to rest and rejuvenate during sleep helps ensure that many physical issues associated with the lack of sleep can be avoided. Another way that lack of sleep increases the chance of early death is in traffic accidents. The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration gives a conservative estimate that 100,000 reported crashes per year are a result of a fatigued driver (ââ¬Å"Facts and statsâ⬠2012). Mental illness has also been linked to lack of sleep. Issues ranging from poor concentration, inability to focus, memory loss, the appearance of psychosis, and diagnosed mental disorders have been attributed to sleep deprivation. In the past, researchers believed that poor sleep was caused by psychiatric problems. However, recent research is showing that a lack of sleep is usually the catalyst of mental disorders. When the human body needs to concentrate or focus when it has not had enough sleep, it produces hormones adrenaline and cortisol in an attempt to engage and wake itself up. These hormones give the body a short-term boost in energy and they affect the body in much the same way that caffeine does. Once the boost in energy is finished, the body often ââ¬Å"crashesâ⬠and a person returns to feeling tired; unable to concentrate or focus again. These hormones, again like caffeine, often make a person feel jittery of jumpy, which may impede concentration and focus. These hormones have also been directly linked to increase stress in the human body (Hart, 1985). Memory loss can also be a result of sleep deprivation. Memories are captured and recalled in the brain by a three-step process. The first step in creating memories is acquisition; where a person has their first experience with what will become the memory. The next is consolidation; which occurs while a person sleeps. In this step a memory becomes stable in a persons brain. Recall, the final step, is the ability to access the memory in the future. When the brain is denied the opportunity to stabilize a memory during sleep, a person is much less likely to retain the memory (Chang, 2011). Studies have also shown that students who study regularly and get a good night sleep before exams generally do better than students who ââ¬Å"cramâ⬠the night before. The information that the student needs is better solidified in the brain and is ready for recall when the student needs to access the information (Sifferlin, Augu). Symptoms of psychosis have also been directly tied to sleep deprivation. In at least two documented cases, persons who went without sleep for extended periods of time showed symptoms similar to psychosis. In 1964 Randy Gardner attempted to gain entry into the Guiness Book of Work Records by staying awake for eleven days (264 hours). Gardner suffered a gamut of symptoms. Days two through five found Gardner unable to concentrate, irritable, unwilling to cooperate with others, and hallucinating. During days six through nine Gardnerââ¬â¢s speech slowed, his irritability increased, and he began to have lapses in his memory. He often would begin sentences without finishing them and he had difficulty recalling the names of common objects. Paranoia began to set in on day ten. On day eleven, Gardnerââ¬â¢s speech was slurred and without intonation. He seemed expressionless and had to be encouraged to talk or respond to someone talking to him (Ross, 1965). A similar story is told of Peter Tripp, a disk jockey from New York. In an effort to raise money for the March of Dimes, Tripp stayed awake for 200 hours. He showed many of the same symptoms that Gardner did. Trippââ¬â¢s experience with sleep deprivation ended with him mistaking a doctor for an undertaker. He charged out of the room with doctors following close behind. Trippââ¬â¢s mind could no longer determine what was real and what was not (Ross, 1965). With the aid of doctors, Randy Gardner was able to recover completely from his psychotic episode. He was monitored while he slept and eventually returned to normal sleep patterns and a normal state of mind. Peter Tripp, however, suffered from his self-inflicted psychotic break. For some time after his sleepless stunt he thought that he was an impostor of himself and complained of headaches and emotional instability. Lack of sleep can also affect how people perform at their jobs. Routine and remedial tasks are often affected by a lack of sleep. Simple errors, such as spelling, grammatical, mathematical, or clerical errors are most often made due to a lack of sleep. These errors can either go unnoticed or can be corrected without significant consequence. More significant errors are also attributed to fatigue. Between 50,000 and 100,000 deaths each year are caused by preventable medical errors. Long shifts for doctors, interns, and nurses deny medical professionals sleep required for them to function a highà levels. The nuclear accident at Three Mile Island, the meltdown at Chernobyl, the grounding of the Exxon Valdez, and the explosion of space shuttle Challenger have all been linked to fatigue (Harris, Horne, 2000). ââ¬Å"Sleep deprivation is bad for your brain when you are trying to do high-level [thinking] tasks. It may have serious consequences both on performance and on the way your brain functions. â⬠-J. Christian Gillin, M. D. (DeNoon, 2000) In research and in experience it has been proven that lack of sleep can have adverse effects on an individualââ¬â¢s physical health, mental health, and productivity. An individuals physical health is affected by sleep deprivation by an increased risk of death, cardiovascular problems, and issues with their immune system. A personââ¬â¢s mental health suffers as well from a lack of sleep. Memory loss, inability to concentrate or focus, and even psychotic episodes have been traced to sleep deprivation. Randy Gardner and Peter Tripp are prime examples of what happens to the brain when it goes without sleep. Poor job performance and errors ranging from insignificant to catastrophic have been linked to a lack of sleep. The amount of sleep needed for each individual is different. Where some people are able to function on very little sleep, others need many hours to fully restore and rejuvenate. References Coren, S. (1996). Sometimes, they may seem annoying and tiresome, but overall you can stop being amazed at how nice those little annoying features make a person, and you donââ¬â¢t want to change them. My friend Donna is a great example of such a character. Her little flaws just make her even more perfect. Donna is simply too smart. Once you start talking to her, you realize that no matter how much you learn, she will always beat you. Can there be anything more annoying than realizing how inferior you are in comparison with her? Another annoying feature you notice at once is that Donna simply canââ¬â¢t stop making witty comments about anything she doesnââ¬â¢t approve of, and she keeps adding and adding more comments. One should be ready for lots of teasing if he wears some weird-looking hat, or didnââ¬â¢t have time to comb his hair. Donna simply canââ¬â¢t stop. She isnââ¬â¢t balanced at all. She has to point at everything what she finds funny and strange. Besides, Donna likes to give advice whenever she needs and doesnââ¬â¢t need to do that. She thinks she analyzes everything so much better than anyone else does, so she wants to give advice to the whole world on any subject: when the best time to attend the hair-dresser is, how to budget money to get enough savings for a new super short dress, what kind of house to build, how to administer a beauty salon, what color of makeup to buy in this season. Donna drives people really crazy with her advice on any point. But perhaps her most annoying feature is that she is too crazy about herself. She wants to attract the attention to herself every second. Every single spare minute she looks in the mirror, and seems to admire the reflection too much. From time to time people have to wonder whether she is going to act in movies very soon- it is very possible she will finally achieve that. Donna just attracts attention to herself in all the situations, even when itââ¬â¢s not appropriate at all. Have you heard stories about how parties go when Donna arrives? Let me tell you one. Imagine everybody assembled at the birthday party, talking, eating, drinking, congratulating the birthday-boy, and not worrying about anything. Then the door opens, and Donna not walks but flies in. Thatââ¬â¢s her usual manner of walking- flying as if she has a couple of eagles carrying her on their wings. The world gets turned upside down at the party right away after Donnaââ¬â¢s arrival. Everybody gets shut up, even the guy having a birthday party. Nobody even notices him anymore because the ââ¬Å"realâ⬠star has arrived, and everybody is almost feeling her radiant beams. The party becomes completely centralized in Donnaââ¬â¢s hands. Donna talks about everything what comes into her mind, and itââ¬â¢s always too interesting. It drives everyone crazy because Donna gets all the attention but nothing can be done about that. Here she is already checking the food supply and arranging on the telephone the order of some more food and drinks for the party because she sees that something is missing. She is running around the house bringing new dishes in. She invents a hundred different contests to entertain the guests at the party. She is telling anecdotes and making everyone fall off their chairs of too much laughing. One will never forget a birthday party with the participation of Donna. You might think she is crazy for having as much energy as a jet aircraft, but that is just the way she is. You will definitely find it annoying how she wants the world to turn around her- but she is really worth that! Have you ever seen Donna shopping in the store for her next party? Thatââ¬â¢s a show to see. It looks as if she is getting ready for her first ball like girls were getting ready in England many centuries ago. At that time every girl thought that during the first ball she will meet her future husband. She had to prepare very carefully. Donna is the same way, but about every party. Everything needs to be too perfect from her point of view. She will not buy a dress unless it fits her like a princess. Donna can waste hours and go from one store to another driving sales girls crazy with her requests, but she will eventually find something what will make her a goddess. The sales girls will be sweating from carrying more and more clothes to Donna to try. But she doesnââ¬â¢t care how many items she has to try on. She stands near the mirror and gazes at herself for as much time as she wants. Donna knows will get her dream-dress this way or another. One always gets amazed where she finds all that stuff, but she somehow does. Itââ¬â¢s really annoying that Donna wants everything in her life to be so perfect. However, it makes her really cute. She is just different from others. Donna is certainly an outstanding character. Even though some of her features are really annoying, they seem that way to many people only because they envy her. They envy Donnaââ¬â¢s industriousness, her thirst for knowledge and perfection, and her insatiable energy. Some people even suspect she is out of this world because she is never sad, always in a great mood, and willing to change everything what she considers not perfect enough. Everybody who knows Donna well is already used to those features of her character, and simply neglects those which seem annoying in many ways. There are no perfect people in the world. That is why itââ¬â¢s just necessary to take people the way they are. Donna definitely rings sunshine into the world. Everybody who knows her well canââ¬â¢t get enough of her. Whenever she is around, there is no stop for jokes and laugh. Nobody can be sad. If you ever want to get a smile on your face, just go see my friend Donna. She was a key figure, if more or less a pawn, in the Wars of the Roses. Fast Facts: Anne Neville Known For: Wife of Edward, Prince of Wales, son of Henry VI; wife of Richard of Gloucester; when Richard became King as Richard III, Anne became Queen of EnglandBorn: June 11, 1456 at Warwick Castle in London, EnglandParents: Richard Neville, Earl of Warwick and his wife Anne BeauchampDied: March 16, 1485 in London, EnglandSpouse(s): Edward of Westminster, Prince of Wales, son of Henry VI (m. 1470ââ¬â1471); Richard, Duke of Gloucester, later Richard III, brother of Edward IV (m. 1472ââ¬â1485)Children: Edward, Prince of Wales (c. 1473ââ¬â1484) Early Life Anne Neville was born June 11, 1456, at Warwick Castle in London, England, and likely lived there and in other castles held by her family while she was a child. She did attend various formal celebrations, including the feast celebrating the marriage of Margaret of York in 1468.à Annes fatherà Richard Neville, Earl of Warwick, was called the Kingmaker for his shifting and influential roles in the Wars of the Roses.à He was a nephew of theà Duke of Yorksà wife, Cecily Neville, mother of Edward IV and Richard III. He came into considerable property and wealth when he marriedà Anne Beauchamp. They had no sons, only two daughters, of whom Anne Neville was the younger, and Isabel (1451ââ¬â1476) the elder.à These daughters would inherit a fortune, and thus their marriages were especially important in the royal marriage game. Anne as Goods for Alliances In 1460, Annes fatherà and his uncle, Edward, Duke of York and Earl of March, defeated Henry VI at Northampton. In 1461, Edward was proclaimed King of England as Edward IV. Edward married Elizabeth Woodville in 1464, surprising Warwick, who had plans for a more advantageous marriage for him. By 1469, Warwick had turned against Edward IV and the Yorkists and joined the Lancastrian cause promoting the return of Henry VI. Henrys queen, Margaret of Anjou, was heading the Lancastrian effort from France. Warwick married his older daughter, Isabel, to George, Duke of Clarence, a brother of Edward IV, while the parties were in Calais, France.à Clarence switched from the York to the Lancaster party. Edward, Prince of Wales The next year, Warwick, apparently to convince Margaret of Anjou that he was trustworthy (because he had originally sided with Edward IV in unseating Henry VI), married his daughter Anne to Henry VIs son and heir apparent, Edward of Westminster. The marriage was held in Bayeux in mid-December of 1470. Warwick, Edward of Westminster accompanied Queen Margaret as she and her army invaded England, Edward IV fled to Burgundy. Annes marriage to Edward of Westminster convinced Clarence that Warwick had no intention to promote his kingship. Clarence switched sides and rejoined his Yorkist brothers. York Victories, Lancastrian Losses On April 14, 1471 at the Battle of Barnet, the Yorkist party was victorious, and Annes father, Warwick, and a brother of Warwick, John Neville, were among those killed. Then on May 4, in the Battle of Tewkesbury, the Yorkists won another decisive victory over Margaret of Anjous forces, and Annes young husband, Edward of Westminster, was killed either during the battle or shortly after. With his heir dead, the Yorkists had Henry VI killed days later.à Edward IV, now victorious and restored, imprisoned Anne, widow of Edward of Westminster and no longer Princess of Wales.à Clarence took custody of Anne and her mother. Richard of Gloucester When siding with the Yorkists earlier, Warwick, in addition to marrying his older daughter, Isabel Neville, to George, Duke of Clarence, had been trying to marry his younger daughter Anne to Edward IVs youngest brother, Richard, Duke of Gloucester. Anne and Richard were first cousins once removed, as were George and Isabel, all descended from Ralph de Neville and Joan Beaufort. (Joan was the legitimized daughter of John of Gaunt, duke of Lancaster, and Katherine Swynford.)à Clarence tried to prevent the marriage of his wifes sister to his brother. Edward IV also opposed the marriage of Anne and Richard.à Becauseà Warwick had no sons, his valuable lands and titles would go to his daughters husbands at his death. Clarences motivation likely was that he didnt want to divide his wifes inheritance with his brother. Clarence attempted to take Anne in as his ward in order to control her inheritance. But under circumstances that are not fully known to history, Anne escaped Clarences control and she took sanctuary at a church in London, probably with Richards organization. It took two acts of parliament to set aside the rights of Anne Beauchamp, mother of Anne and Isabel, and a cousin, George Neville, and to divide the estate between Anne Neville and Isabel Neville. Anne, who had been widowed in May of 1471, married Richard, Duke of Gloucester, brother of Edward IV, perhaps in March or July of 1472.à He then claimed Annes inheritance.à The date of their marriage is not certain, and there is no evidence of a papal dispensation for such close relatives to marry.à A son, Edward, was born in 1473 or 1476, and a second son, who did not live long, may have been born as well. Annes sister Isabel died in 1476, shortly after her birth of a short-lived fourth child. George, Duke of Clarence, was executed in 1478 for plotting against Edward IV; Isabel had died in 1476. Anne Neville took charge of raising the children of Isabel and Clarence.à Their daughter, Margaret Pole, was executed much later, in 1541, by Henry VIII. The Young Princes Edward IV died in 1483. On his death, his minor son Edward became Edward V. But the young prince was never crowned. He was put into the charge of his uncle, Annes husband, Richard of Gloucester, as Protector. Prince Edward and, later, his younger brother were taken to the Tower of London, where they disappeared from history. Its presumed that they were killed, although its not clear when. Stories have long circulated that Richard III was responsible for the deaths of his nephews, the Princes in the Tower, to remove rival claimants for the crown. Henry VII, Richards successor, also had motive and, if the princes survived Richards reign, would have had the opportunity to have them killed. A few have pointed at Anne Neville herself as having the motivation to order the deaths. Heirs to the Throne While the princes were still being held under Richards control. Richard had his brothers marriage to Elizabeth Woodville declared invalid and his brothers children declared illegitimate on June 25, 1483, thereby inheriting the crown himself as the legitimate male heir. Anne was crowned as Queen and their son Edward was made Prince of Wales. But Edward died on April 9, 1484; Richard adopted Edward, Earl of Warwick, son of his sister, as his heir, probably at Annes request. Anne may have been unable to bear another child due to her ill health. Annes Death Anne, who reportedly was never very healthy, fell ill in early 1485 and died on March 16. Buried in Westminster Abbey, her grave was unmarked until 1960. Richard quickly named a different heir to the throne, his sister Elizabeths adult son, the Earl of Lincoln. With Annes death, Richard was rumored to be plotting to marry his niece, Elizabeth of York, to secure a stronger claim to the succession. Stories soon circulated that Richard had poisoned Anne to get her out of the way. If that was his plan, he was foiled. Richard IIIs reign ended on August 22, 1485, when he was defeated by Henry Tudor at the Battle of Bosworth. Henry was crowned Henry VII and married Elizabeth of York, bringing to an end the Wars of the Roses. Edward, Earl of Warwick, the son of Annes sister and Richards brother whom Richard adopted as heir, was imprisoned in the Tower of London by Richards successor, Henry VII, and executed after he attempted to escape in 1499. Annes possessions included a book of theà Visions of St. Matildaà which she had signed as Anne Warrewyk. Fictional Representations Shakespeare: In Richard III, Anne appears early in the play with the body of her father-in-law, Henry VI; she blames Richard for his death and that of her husband, the Prince of Wales, son on Henry VI. Richard charms Anne, and, though she also loathes him, she marries him. Richard early reveals that he does not intend to keep her long, and Anne is suspicious that he intends to kill her. She conveniently disappears as Richard begins a plan to marry his niece, Elizabeth of York. Shakespeare takes considerable creative license with history in his story of Anne. The time of the play is much compressed, and motives are likely also exaggerated or changed for literary effect. In the historical timeline, Henry VI and his son, Annes first husband, were killed in 1471; Anne married Richard in 1472; Richard III took power in 1483 soon after his brother, Edward IV, died suddenly, and Richard ruled for two years, dying in 1485. The White Queen: Anne Neville was a major character in the 2013 miniseries The White Queen, which was based on the novel of the same name (2009) by Philippa Gregory.
